Cable & Wireless Optus plans to transfer ownership of part of its fibre-optic cable to at least four Australian carriers through wholesale agreements estimated to be worth $200 million. It is believed that the data and business services group, which includes the wholesale business and is led by executive Mr Stephen Beynon, is now in talks with at least four carriers for the sale of capacity on its network. Optus's largest wholesale customers include MCI Worldcom, Vodafone, One.Tel, ComVergent and Davnet. The sale negotiations come as Optus continues to battle the Australian Securities and Investments Commission over the accounting of its landmark transaction with the Telecom New Zealand-controlled AAPT Ltd.
