Market Preview For Thursday

Lycos [LCOS] after Wednesday's close reported third-quarter earnings of
$0.07 per share, compared with a loss of $0.01 during the same quarter last
year. Analysts polled by First Call expected $0.05 a share. Lycos edged
higher in after-hours trading.

Egghead.com [EGGS] just before Wednesday's close announced it expects for
the remainder of 2000 to continue emphasizing higher gross margins and
lower losses. Shares surged in the half hour before the markets closed and
continued to move higher in after-hours trading.

Other Factors Affecting Stocks
Advance Paradigm [ADVP] late Wednesday reported fourth-quarter earnings of
$0.24 per share, compared with $0.15 during the same period last year.
Analysts polled by First Call expected $0.23 a share.

After Wednesday's close, Vyyo [VYYO] announced that it had agreed to
jointly develop customer premise equipment products for use in MMDS
broadband wireless access networks with REMEC [REMC].

Digital Lightwave [DIGL] late Wednesday introduced the industry's most
comprehensive portable Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM)
analyzer, which provides network technicians with a fully integrated DWDM
installation and provisioning system.

Protein Design Labs [PDLI] after Wednesday's close announced that it had
signed multiple patent license agreements with Chugai Pharmaceutical.

After Wednesday's close, PETCO Animal Supplies [PETC] reported
first-quarter earnings of $0.30 per share, compared with $0.17 during the
same quarter last year. Analysts polled by First Call expected $0.22 a
share.

Yahoo [YHOO] meets with analysts on Thursday.

Forest Laboratories [FRX] presents some new data on LU 26-054, a
formulation of its Celexa antidepressant, at the American Psychiatric
Association's annual meeting in Chicago.

Campbell Soup [CPB], Silicon Graphics [SGI] and RR Donnelley [DNY] hold
company-sponsored analyst meetings on Thursday.

Gateway [GTW], Time Warner [TWX] and Williams [WMB] are among companies
holding annual shareholders meetings on Thursday.

Word On The Street
"We probably will get some further downside testing in the next week or
two," says Richard McCabe of Merrill Lynch. "I think the Dow and the S&P
500 will hold above their March/April lows ... but I would not be surprised
if the NASDAQ made one more new low, maybe into the very high 2,000s, and I
think we might get an early summer rally in June and July."
