========================================================= Market Preview For Wednesday ========================================================= Hewlett-Packard [HWP] after Tuesday's close reported second-quarter earnings of $0.87 per share, compared with $0.73 during the same period last year. Analysts polled by First Call expected $0.82 a share.Veritas Software [VRTS] said late Tuesday that it reached an agreement with International Business Machines [IBM] to make its software available for IBM's AIX/Monterey systems. Shares of Veritas were higher in after-hours trading. Other Factors Affecting Stocks NVIDIA [NVDA] late Tuesday announced that its Board of Directors had approved a 2-for-1 stock split. After Tuesday's close, BEA Systems [BEAS] announced pro forma first quarter earnings of $0.03 per share, compared with $0.01 during the same period last year. Analysts expected $0.02 a share. Agilent Technologies [A] shares fell in after-hours trading on Tuesday after reporting second-quarter earnings that met Wall Street estimates. The company, though, said its operating income had declined. Intel [INTC] holds its annual meeting on Wednesday. The US government replies to Microsoft's [MSFT] proposal to restrict its business practices, rather than split it in two, as the government has suggested. US Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers addresses the Economic Strategy Institute's Global Forum. Ford Motor [F], Bausch & Lomb [BOL] and PacifiCare Health Systems [PHSY] hold company-sponsored analyst meetings on Wednesday. Shares of Credence Systems [CMOS] and Virata [VRTA] are expected to split 2-for-1 based on Wednesday's closing price.
